Global Open Design Challenge

By submitting your registration you agree to the following Code of Conduct and Terms and Conditions.

Objective

UNESCO and the Liiv Center are launching a Global Open Design Challenge, which aims to develop innovative methodologies and tools based on the experience of responding to real social problems using digital anthropology.

Code of Conduct

All attendees, participants, partners, volunteers, and staff (“Participants”) at our Open Design Challenge (“Challenge”) are required to agree to the following Code of Conduct.

Safer [online] Spaces: We are committed to making this Challenge a safer space where all people are listened to and respected. We are a community with many different backgrounds, and we all have different experiences of spaces in which we learn and interact. We want to set the tone for the diverse and inclusive environment we are creating together.

Self-care [Zoom fatigue]: We are all eager to contribute, but we value our mental health. Some topics we are working on are heavy, so we take breaks. Go recharge and rest. When we experience Zoom fatigue, we know that turning the camera off is okay.

Collaboration over Competition: Collaboration across teams is encouraged and necessary. One of the most valuable things we can all take from this challenge is the ability to have conversations with people, listen to different perspectives, and hopefully connect to a growing community of practice.

Be Respectful: Be kind to others. Do not insult or put down other participants. Behave professionally. Remember that harassment and racist, sexist, or exclusionary jokes are inappropriate. We all benefit when everyone feels welcome to bring their whole selves to the conversation.  Each person matters. Everyone is welcome to contribute.

Be Thoughtful: Consider and respect other people’s opinions and beliefs. Everyone is entitled to their point of view, and a diverse range of opinions and perspectives is one thing that allows us to create such innovative solutions at a rapid pace.

Be Open. We welcome participants from all backgrounds, and a Challenge is an excellent opportunity for learning and meeting new people. Be friendly, welcome, and open with your fellow Participants. Share your knowledge, expertise and opinions, and embrace those of others. Consider open-source licensing and the use of open data and how any code you create could be reused in the spirit of this event.

Be Awesome. Do your best and believe in yourself. A Challenge is an incredible experience for people of any ability level; everyone can make a valuable contribution. Not every project will be successful, but ideas you believe in are worth exploring. You could change the world, and if every project we build helps someone, saves a life or makes a positive difference, we have succeeded.
